Training Weekend - 15th / 16th March

Team Training Day - 24th Feb 2008

After a considerable thaw, the Team headed for the high ground in search of snow. Team members practiced a variety of winter skills in the gullies above the Shan Spital bridge including ice axe arrest, short roping a mobile casualty, snow pack assessment and avalanche risk forecasting. The Team also ran a short exercise involving the use of avalanche probes and transceivers to locate a buried casualty. This involved the burying of 'live' team members in order that a true understanding of both the mechanics, and the urgency of avalanche search are fully appreciated!
